Evacuation diagrams for regional WA

Distance should not mean out-of-date diagrams. Craig McGuiness travels across regional WA to survey schools, TAFEs and agricultural colleges, and plans each trip so several sites are done in one visit. Your drawings stay on file, so later updates can often be done from plans and photos.

Across the state

From Geraldton to the Pilbara, the Goldfields and the Wheatbelt

Regional schools often wait longer for diagram updates simply because they are far from Perth. CMG works around that. Craig groups regional visits so several sites in the same area are surveyed on one trip, which keeps travel sensible for everyone.

He has drawn diagrams in Geraldton, Kalgoorlie, Roebourne, Karratha, Paraburdoo, Cunderdin, York, Darkan, Narrogin, Katanning, Exmouth and Esperance. Because every site’s drawings are kept on file, small changes later can usually be handled remotely from updated plans and photos. Bigger changes, like a new building, get a site visit on the next trip.

What clients say

In their words

CMG Fire and Safety Services were fantastic to work with. We are a small school located regionally, and the process was efficient from start to finish, plans provided were excellent: clear, professional and neatly presented in frames.

Interactive self-check

Is your evacuation diagram still compliant?

Six quick checks based on AS 3745-2010 and what Craig sees most often on WA sites.

Does every diagram have a "You Are Here" point that matches where it is mounted?AS 3745-2010 requires the diagram to be oriented to the viewer's position.

Are all current exits and paths of travel shown, with nothing that no longer exists?Blocked, locked or removed doors are the most common failure.

Is the assembly area shown correctly, including any temporary changes?Construction, transportables and new fencing often move it.

Is every extinguisher, hose reel, blanket and alarm point shown where it actually is?Equipment gets relocated during fit-outs and services.

Has the building changed since the diagram was issued?Extensions, new rooms, demountables or a changed use of space.

Is the diagram legible, with a legend, and mounted at the right height?Faded prints and missing legends are non-compliant.

Answer the six checks above

Takes under a minute. We will tell you plainly whether your diagrams are likely to stand up.

Common questions

Straight answers grounded in AS 3745-2010 and WA workplace legislation. Anything else, call Craig.

Yes. Craig visits regional sites in person to survey them. He plans trips so several schools or sites in the same area are done in one visit, which keeps travel practical. If your neighbours are also due for new diagrams, let us know and we can plan around it.

Often, yes. We keep every school’s drawings on file, so if the change is small, such as a relocated extinguisher or a renamed room, we can usually update the diagrams from your plans and photos. Bigger changes, like a new building, are best checked on site.

Every building people work or sleep in should be covered by your emergency plan. On agricultural college sites that can include workshops, sheds and farm buildings as well as classrooms and accommodation. We survey each one and draw diagrams to suit how it is used.

Where students sleep on site, diagrams are needed on every level of the accommodation, placed where residents and staff will see them. We make sure the routes and assembly area work at night as well as during the day, because that is when people are least familiar with conditions.

Under AS 3745-2010 your Emergency Planning Committee nominates a validity period, and the standard’s note says it should not exceed five years. Craig’s position is to review at least every five years, and straight away whenever the site changes, including new buildings or changes to bushfire arrangements.

Yes. Many regional sites have different arrangements for a bushfire than for a building fire. Where your emergency plan sets out a shelter-in-place area or a separate assembly point, we can show it clearly so staff and students know where to go.
