Evacuation Diagrams for Early Learning Centres, Childcare and Kindergartens in WA

An early learning centre evacuates children who cannot walk, cots and evacuation prams, with a small number of staff. The diagram has to make that possible at a glance. CMG draws diagrams for standalone childcare centres, school-based ELCs and kindergartens across Perth and WA, to AS 3745-2010 and the way WA regulators expect it applied.

Childcare sites

Short routes, clear assembly areas and diagrams staff can read while carrying a child

Childcare diagrams need the shortest practical route from every room, exits sized and marked for prams, and assembly areas away from car parks and driveways. Staff change often, so the diagram has to work for someone on their first shift. CMG keeps the layout simple, the orientation correct for each mounting point and the legend complete.

Many WA schools run an ELC or kindergarten on the same site. CMG can draw the ELC as part of the whole-school set so the assembly plan is consistent across the campus.

Interactive self-check

Is your evacuation diagram still compliant?

Six quick checks based on AS 3745-2010 and what Craig sees most often on WA sites.

Does every diagram have a "You Are Here" point that matches where it is mounted?AS 3745-2010 requires the diagram to be oriented to the viewer's position.

Are all current exits and paths of travel shown, with nothing that no longer exists?Blocked, locked or removed doors are the most common failure.

Is the assembly area shown correctly, including any temporary changes?Construction, transportables and new fencing often move it.

Is every extinguisher, hose reel, blanket and alarm point shown where it actually is?Equipment gets relocated during fit-outs and services.

Has the building changed since the diagram was issued?Extensions, new rooms, demountables or a changed use of space.

Is the diagram legible, with a legend, and mounted at the right height?Faded prints and missing legends are non-compliant.

Answer the six checks above

Takes under a minute. We will tell you plainly whether your diagrams are likely to stand up.

Common questions

Straight answers grounded in AS 3745-2010 and WA workplace legislation. Anything else, call Craig.

Yes. Childcare centres are workplaces under the WHS (General) Regulations 2022 and must have compliant evacuation diagrams under AS 3745-2010. The National Quality Framework also requires emergency and evacuation procedures to be displayed.

At each exit and in each room where educators work, oriented to the way the viewer faces, at a height adults can read quickly.

Often yes, if it is a safe distance from the building and away from vehicles. Craig confirms the best location during the review.

AS 3745-2010 recommends at least one full drill a year, and most WA centres practise quarterly so new educators take part. CMG can run evacuation training on site.
