Bushfire Attack Level (BAL) Assessments
The State Planning Policy 3.7 Planning in Bushfire Prone Areas and the Guidelines for Planning in Bushfire Prone Areas strongly recommend the use of Bushfire Attack Level (BAL) Assessors to undertake various bushfire management measures in designated bushfire prone areas. To help you identify whether or not your site is located in a designated bushfire prone area, the State Government has created a mapping standard outlining the designated bushfire prone areas across WA. How CMG Fire and Safety Services can help you?
A BAL Assessment is a means of measuring the severity of a building’s potential exposure to ember attack, radiant heat and direct flame contact, using increments of radiant heat expressed in kilowatts per metre squared and the basis for establishing the requirements for construction to improve protection of building elements from attack by bushfire.
The Australian Standard AS3959:2009 – ‘Construction of buildings in bushfire-prone areas’ is primarily concerned with improving the ability of buildings in designated bushfire prone areas to better withstand attack from bush fire, therefore giving better protection to the building occupants (until the fire front passes) as well as to the building itself.
This standard is part of a process that aims to lessen the risk of damage to buildings in the event of a bushfire. Other measures of mitigating damage from bushfire fall within the areas of planning, subdivision, siting, landscaping and maintenance.
Our full bushfire attach level assessment will take about 30-40 minutes with one of our Fire Protection Association (FPA) trained BAL Level 1 Assessors completing the report in a day.
Our Bushfire Assessment will:
- Calculate your defendable space;
- Assess the amount of defendable space required to protect you from radiant heat during a bushfire;
- Reduce the risk of ember attack on your property; and
- Identify & manage the vegetation in the inner & outer zones surrounding your business or home.
